The attraction between Brent Berkheimer and Scott Spearman peels the wallpaper, but Brent is Scott’s boss, and they’re both too professional to go beyond flirting. Their priorities realign after Scott is badly injured in an accident that costs him his hearing, and Brent realizes what is truly important… he wants Scott.
Scott pushes Brent away at first, fearing a new romance will just add to his problems, but perhaps he will find unexpected strength and solace in Brent’s support as he struggles to communicate with the world in a new way.
Just as they decide the chance of a happy future together is worth the risk, Scott and Brent discover darker challenges in their way—including evidence that the “accident” Scott suffered may not have been so accidental.
Andrew Grey is such an amazing author. I read Heart Unseen and now I have had the privilege of reading Heart Unheard. This was an incredible book about learning to deal with a disability that one never expects to have to deal with. Yes, Scott is mad about it happening to him but in reality he accepted it pretty well and did not give up or give in. That is very inspiring.
Brent has been in love with Scott for a couple of years now but he never made a move for a couple of reasons. One he is Scott’s boss and did not want to take advantage of that. Two he is older then Scott. Three, he does not feel worthy of him and honestly he is scared of being rejected by Scott. In other words, he was just plain scared and could not get past that.
After Scott’s accident and not knowing if he is going to live or die, Brent realizes that life is too short and he needs to man up if Scott makes it through this.
Scott did make it but he will forever be changed. In the accident Scott lost his hearing. So now Scott is scared that no one will ever love him. But that is just not the case. Brent could care less if he can hear or not. What is important is the fact that Brent has a second chance to finally be honest with Scott about how he feels.
Just when these two start to finally get their footing with one another, an explosive truth about Scott’s accident comes to light. Now Brent has to be strong for Scott and Scott has to know for sure if this was an accident or if it was done on purpose.
This was such an emotional read. There is a twist of mystery to it so that makes this read so much better. I look forward to seeing what Andrew comes up with in the future.
