A deal with the devil….
Gabriel 1089 is an angel—an enhanced and cybernetically modified human designed to protect the city in the sky called Heaven. He follows Heaven’s orders and fights its enemies. But when an attack by demons leaves him trapped on the earth below, missing both a metal wing and his network-enabled halo, he’s cut off from his home for good and at the mercy of one man.
Jeff Werth is used to demons in need of his mechanical expertise showing up on the doorstep of the junkyard he runs in Old Trent. However, he doesn’t expect to be stuck with an injured angel. Jeff owes the demons for saving his daughter’s life, so he does what they demand—he nurses the angel back to health and keeps close track of him as a possible pawn in the high-stakes war between Heaven above and the demons below. But he doesn’t expect the effect Gabe has on his heart, or having to choose between his daughter and the man he’s come to love.
This is one of those books when you read the blurbabout what the book will be about and you wonder hmm, will this really be any good or will it be cheesy? Well after reading it I can say with all honesty that it was a really good read. I was pleasantly surprised.
Gabe is an angel that found himself in trouble. But the problem with that trouble is it was a set up and he fell for it. Now Gabe is wounded and has no way to contact any of the other angels. Also he found himself with only one workable wing and with a man and child that he did not know previously.
Jeff is used to having to help demons that are in need especially since he made a deal with a demon in order to save his daughter’s life. Kayla is his world so he has never regretted the decision. But now it is time to return and repay the favor and what they want is something that Jeff never expected.
Jeff is to care for an injured angel and keep him from contacting any of the other angels. Of course Jeff is going to do what he has to do. What Jeff did not expect is to start to fall for this angel.
The unexpected happens with Gabe when his memories from his previous life as an angel start to return. So both Jeff and Gabe are dealing with their own demons while trying to navigate their ever growing feelings for one another. Then to make matters worse there is still the little problem of the deal Jeff made with the demons and them wanting Gabe.
This was an exciting read. Not only is there the aspect of an angel and a human falling for one another but there is also the aspect of danger where there could possibly be a war between heaven and hell, angels and demons. So it is exciting to read what leads up to everything and how it all turns out. C.C. Bridges does an incredible job on this book. Definitely going to be an exciting series.
