FBI agents Aidan “Irish” Talley and Jameson “Whiskey” Walker can’t get a moment’s peace. Their hunt for the terrorist Renaud seems to be nearing an end, until a fire allows him to slip through their fingers—and puts Jamie’s life in danger. When Jamie is nearly killed, Aidan learns how many forms loss can take.

Aidan says I love you just moments before learning that Jamie’s been keeping a devastating secret about Aidan’s late husband. How quickly trust and love can go up in flames. When Aidan requests a solo undercover assignment, Jamie hopes Aidan will find a way to forgive him.

But the explosions are far from over. Aidan’s cover lands him in the heart of the terrorist’s conspiracy, and Jamie will have to put his life, his career and his freedom on the line to save the man who has become his entire world. Partners, always is a promise he intends to keep.

I think I owe Tristan James a bottle of wine or whiskey.

He is the only reason I continued on with this series after book two…well Tristan and the fact I’d dropped serious coin on the books and audio.

The final story in the Irish and Whiskey triology starts off with Aidan, Jamie, and Danny racing to get to Mel, Aidan’s boss and sister-in-law. When circumstances turn Jamie is almost killed and Aidan finds out just how deep all the betrayals in his life go.

Yes, the other shoe has dropped and the cards are on the table. Aidan wraps himself in the betrayal, ignoring how hurt Jamie is (both physically and emotionally), and everything is completely out of whack – not the least of which is their partnership.

Barrel Proof offers up lots of twists and turns, the answers to the ongoing mysteries are finally revealed, and Aidan and Jamie finally get their HFN/HEA.

This was not as frustrating as Cask Strength for me, but I was still shaking my head with all the relationship angst, the multitude of odd decisions, and…just everything. I’m just happy I finally finished.

Tristan James is brilliant as the narrator for this series, with the character voices, his timing, and the way that he keeps all the suspense and romance flowing seemingly effortlessly. He was an absolute joy to listen to – even when the story itself was driving me nuts.

It pays to note I am in the far, far minority with this – as always, your mileage may vary.

I am an unapologetic book addict/lover. I’m happiest when reading and I spend most of my time with my Kindle, which is never far from my hand.
I love to be told a good story! I mostly read fiction: Romance, Erotica, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal (shifters? Yes, please!), a little BDSM when I’m in the mood, and I love a good ménage story. I DEFINITELY PREFER A HFN/HEA!

My biggest no-no’s are cheating, miscommunication / misunderstanding plots, unnecessary angst, and cliffhangers.
