A Requiem Inc. Story

Only love makes life worth living—over and over again.

Ghostwalker Blake Jones dies every day. It’s his job and how he helps trapped souls cross over. But to return to life, he needs an anchor. His new partner, Derek Scott, is a surprise. Not only is he male, but his appearance belies a caring and gentle heart. Despite attraction and a strengthening relationship, they know they shouldn’t take things further.

But there’s a big difference between knowing and doing.

Their growing love presents a problem, though not the one they expect. Blake and Derek have to decide if they should take their relationship to the most permanent level—an unbreakable metaphysical bond. Doing so offers both risk and unimaginable reward. Can Blake let go of his fears and put his complete trust in Derek in order to have the happily ever after he’s always craved?

Blake Jones is a Ghostwalker, he’s able to cross over to the spirit plane and guide trapped souls to the other side. It’s a hugely important job, but it requires that he have someone there to anchor him. Because in order to cross over Blake Jones has to die. And to return to life he needs an anchor, someone who cares for people deeply and takes care of the needs of the ghostwalker.

When his current anchor retires, his boss matches him with Derek Scott, a new anchor who actually has the anchor gene, which is more rare than the ghostwalker gene and predisposes Derek to be a caretaker.

All he wanted was to take care of everyone around him, to make sure they were happy and safe and fed.

At first Blake is against having a male partner, mostly because of his reactions when he comes back from the spirit plane, but Derek is perfect for him – he knows just how to take care of Blake. As their relationship deepens, it opens them up to a possibility they thought was only a rumor and stories: an Anchor bond. A love that is an unbreakable metaphysical bond.

“In order for an anchor bond to form, the anchor has to have the gene, and the pair has to connect on a mental, emotional, and physical level.”

I loved so much about this story! It is fresh, original, and like nothing I’ve read before.

Ghost of a Chance has an awesome premise, great character development, some nice heat between Blake and Derek, and a really sweet ending. Frankly this ticked off pretty much all of my boxes.

I’ve been a fan of Kris T. Bethke since the Something Like…Series and this beginning of a new series is one where I am definitely looking forward to seeing what comes next.

Author

I am an unapologetic book addict/lover. I’m happiest when reading and I spend most of my time with my Kindle, which is never far from my hand.
I love to be told a good story! I mostly read fiction: Romance, Erotica, Young Adult, New Adult, Paranormal (shifters? Yes, please!), a little BDSM when I’m in the mood, and I love a good ménage story. I DEFINITELY PREFER A HFN/HEA!

My biggest no-no’s are cheating, miscommunication / misunderstanding plots, unnecessary angst, and cliffhangers.

A sampling of my “Favorite M/M” stories:

Carry the Ocean The Half of Us Red Dirt Heart Adulting 101 Tied Up In Knots
Shelter the Sea Manties in a Twist David, Renewed Ethan who Loved Carter Perfect Imperfections
Wolfsong Fight the Tide How to Walk Like A Man The Lightning-Struck Heart Forging the Future
