Max Gaines has known one thing all his life: he loves Jamie Matthews. Best friends since childhood, Max and Jamie are inseparable until the day of Max’s sixteenth birthday when he presents as an Alpha instead of an Omega. With Jamie being an Alpha too, they cannot bond and all their dreams of a future together are dashed.
Jameson “Jamie” Matthews has only ever wanted one man, his best friend Max. He doesn’t care when Max turns out to be an Alpha just like him, Jamie is willing to disregard society’s rules and mate with Max anyway. But when Jamie’s rut comes, all their hopes of bonding are in ashes. Jamie joins the Army to hide his pain and to hide from Max.
Left behind, Max is determined to find a way for them to be together. But time is running out as Jamie’s unit is captured by the anti-shifter group The Amity Brethren. Can Max save Jamie in time, or does fate has something different in mind for them?
I actually really liked this book. H.L. Holston and Sara York took this book in a different direction than most shifter books go. The fact that both main characters start out as Alphas and one is turned into an Omega is a first for me. I really enjoyed the twists because I can honestly say that I never saw the major twist in this book coming.
Jamie fell in love with Max from the first moment that Max walked into his life in grade school and stood up for him. Jamie always expected Max to be his mate and given that Max is an Alpha and how small Jamie is, Jamie assumes that he is an Omega. That would make this mating perfect. But not everything turns into a perfect little mating like Jamie, and even Max, imagined.
Turns out that Max and Jamie are both Alphas. There is a law strictly prohibiting them being together both being Alphas but it is so hard for both men to let go of the hope. More so Jamie. Jamie is determined to figure out a way to turn into an Omega since that is what he always wanted. But Fate has different plans for these two men.
Can Jamie and Max figure out a way for the two of them to be together even though it is not what the shifter law says is acceptable?
This was such an incredible read. As I said there is twists to the book that I did not see coming and I am really hoping that there will be another book. I would really like to see what comes of this book.
