Gael Peterson has spent years hiding behind the enhanced abilities he wears like a mask, even though he is an important, confident member of the FBI’s exclusive H.E.R.O. team. The hurt and betrayal of his mom’s abandonment and his father’s fists are secrets buried deep beneath the ugly scars on his face, and he doesn’t trust Jake, his new regular human partner, with any of them. In a world where those with special abilities like Gael’s are regarded as freaks and monsters, it won’t be easy for him to rely on Jake to have his back, especially when the abilities of a vulnerable, enhanced, nonspeaking child make that child a murder suspect.

Tempers rise and loyalties are challenged, and when the serial killer targeting the enhanced finally sets his sights on Gael, not only will Gael have to trust Jake with his secrets, he might have to trust him to save his life.

This book totally blew me away. In all honesty I am not sure if I read the previous books in this series. But I will be checking to see if I have or not and going back to read them if I haven’t. As far as this is concerned it has hooked me and now I cannot wait for the next book to come out. If it is even half as good as this book then it is going to be fantastic. And if it is about Samuel “Angel” and Vance that will be so much better because those two have some amazing chemistry in just their brief meeting and nowthat they are going to be partnered together, that is going to be an incredible read. Just my prediction anyway. Back to this book, I just loved Gael and Jake.

Gael is an enhanced but behind his supernatural abilities there is a very vulnerable person that is waiting for the right person to come along and help him heal from his past hurt, torture, and pain. Though Gael tried to hide his insecurities it still comes through with the one person that he has tried so hard to hide it from, Jake.

Gael is not willing to give Jake a try as a partner at first but after landing a case where they have to work together somewhat, Jake and Gael find themselves at a fork in the road.

Jake knows that Gael does not trust him. Regardless that does not stop Jake from wanting Gael too. He really wants to make the partnership to work and when it starts to look like they may be getting on some even ground, Gael’s past complaining comes back to bite both men in the butt and they are partnered with new people that neither now wants. But Gael does not know how to repair the damage that he caused so he is going to leave well enough alone for the time being.

When Jake is the one to come to Gael’s rescue after getting kicked out of his rental home, this is where things really start to change between the two men and Gael finally starts to open up to and trust Jake.

That could not have came a better time because the case their team is working is heating up and as it turns out in the end, Gael may need Jake to protect him in the end above and beyond anyone else.

As I said this was an incredible read and I cannot wait till the next book comes out. Victoria Sue now has a new fan of her work after reading this book. I will be impatiently awaiting the next book in this series to come out. I can’t wait!!!!

Hello, I am an avid reader of male/male books. I do not have a favorite genre when it comes to male/male books because I love all of them from romance, dark reads, paranormal, shifter, threesome, whatever I see that catches my eye at the time.

I read books about rock stars, CEOs, military, cops, and just the original plain old good boy types of books.

Basically when it comes to a book, I read whatever I am in the mood for at the time. So my tastes varies from day to day and sometimes even hour to hour.

Please comment! We'd love to hear from you.
