Fear of being like his unfaithful father has put high walls around senior litigator Asher Caldwell’s heart. Can former district attorney Zach Richardson knock them down to reveal the passionate man beneath the commitment-phobic workaholic, or will Zach’s own jealousy destroy what they’re trying to build?
A new life and a new love—that’s what Zach’s hoping for when he leaves the DA’s office and lets his friends give him a makeover. But the jury’s still out on whether the experiment was a success. His new look gets the attention of his boss and secret crush, Asher Caldwell, and leads to a seduction. Unfortunately, to Zach’s horror he learns that Asher assumed he was a paid escort. Asher is equally mortified to discover he had sex with an employee. Even so, the encounter meant a lot to both men, and they want to give dating a shot. Their romance born out of mistaken identity might work if Zack can trust Asher to be satisfied with the love of only one man… and if Asher can trust himself.
What a sweet read with a little drama thrown in to make it even more interesting. This was a book that I truly enjoyed. This whole series so far has been amazing but I do think this may have been my favorite book so far. And that is not because it is just that much better than the last ones but because I truly fell in love with the two main characters in this book. So that makes it hard to say the other books in this series were better, though they were not worse.
Zach is a lawyer and recently switched to a new firm. He is now working for Caldwell and Monroe law firm and is loving the move he has made to this company. He even let two of his best friends help him with a makeover to go along with the new job. And boy does he feel like a new person all the way around. Zach is used to being in the back ground and not noticed but now with the new look he is being noticed and it is still crazy for him to believe.
After the makeover his two best friends convince him to go out with them and give meeting new people a try and Zach is all for it until he gets a call from the law office needing him to pick up a plea deal and getting it to the head attorney, Asher Caldwell, ASAP. This is when Zach’s life is going to change.
Asher is a commitment-phobe and does not sleep with the same person more then once and to make that easier, Asher uses an escort service to service him. So when Zach shows up at his place dressed in going out clothes, Asher automatically assumes that he is the escort he hired for the night. Zach has no clue that is what Asher thinks and Asher has no idea that Zach is an employee. So when Asher asks Zach if he can kiss him and the chemistry that is coming off these two reaches off the charts, Zach does not really question it because he has had a crush on Asher since before starting the firm. So with the makeover he just assumes that Asher is noticing him for the first time.
It is not until after they have a really good time together that Zach realizes that Asher thought he was someone else and it is not till the next day that Asher realizes his mistake as well. Can two men that started out on the wrong foot find the right footing together? Can a person scared to date anyone finally get over his insecurities and grab ahold of a good thing when he finds it? Can someone that is used to being in the background get over his insecurities as well?
This was a great romance story. It has little drama. Ari McKay did such a great job of making me fall in love with Zach and Asher. They are my new favorite couple in the series. I look forward to the next book in this series.
