Loneliness. The pain doesn’t simply go away with time. It’s been years, and they tell me I need to move on. But I can’t.
Blame and regret are my constant companions. Until I see him in the spotlight and everything changes. Night after night, I watch him dance. Thinking about him.
What he’d feel like.
What he’d taste like.
And now that I know, I want him even more.
And maybe…just maybe, he might want me too.
But not yet.
Not before he knows he’s more than a pretty face. Not before he knows what he means to me. I need him by my side.
The two of us.
Why can’t I forget him? His hands touching me. His mouth on mine. Kissing me. Rendering me mindless.
Every night I lay awake burning for him. Dreaming. Thinking. Needing him.
No—I don’t. I don’t need anyone.
I want him.
I want more. I am more. He’s seen that, and now here I stand with my dream on the horizon. All I need to do is take that first step. Trust him.
Rhoades begins immediately where Austin, Book one, left off.
WOW!!! Such an incredible follow-up book to Austin. I was blown away by Rhoades and Austin in this book. I even fell in love with them individually and then the two as a possible couple. Not only that but I fell in love with a couple of the supporting characters that I would really love to have a story to read about them. James and Frankie both have so much going on that I truly believe they need their own stories to give the readers their full story.
This book picks up where “Austin” left off at. The difference between this book and “Austin” is this book is from both men’s point of view where “Austin” is only Austin’s point of view.
Rhoades and Austin both have an undeniable attraction to one another but neither can admit it to the other. So it is a constant push and pull between the two men. Both have their reasons for not wanting a relationship with anyone but neither are willing to talk about why it is they are both so scared.
Rhoades knows firsthand what heartache is. He lost someone he loved and now he doesn’t want to open his heart to that happening again. So instead he has closed himself off to everyone that could possibly hurt him. Even his own half-brother, James, is kept at arm’s length. So when Austin catches his attention from the very first time that he saw him dance at “Man Up” he cannot quit thinking about him.
Austin is no stranger to heartache. He has had more than his fair share and trust is not something that Austin can give to others. He believes that for every nice thing done for someone, something is expected back in return. He has a hard time forgiving and does not believe that people, especially people with a lot of money, do not have an ulterior motive. So when Rhoades starts sending expensive gifts to him at Man Up, he believes that Rhoades is out for one thing and one thing only.
Though both men have a hard time trusting the other, they cannot seem to stay away from the other. Can these two figure out how to get over the past and learn to trust what they feel or is it just going to be a losing battle for one or both men?
I truly enjoyed this book. I love all the drama between these two. There is so much push and pull between the two of them. But deep down there is so much more that they are both fighting and it truly has nothing to do with the other man. It is more to do with their inner demons.
Not to mention I really enjoyed reading about Frankie and his drama and James. James is a mystery to me. I feel like there is an incredible story behind the man himself. There was just enough information about James in this book to leave me wanting more of him. So I hope to see him in a future book soon.
This is definitely an incredible book. I look forward to more books by Felice Stevens in the future.
