Alex Goodwin is a handsome first-year intern at a small town hospital in Pennsylvania. After five years of living with his abusive boyfriend, Cole, Alex has given up on ever being happy again—until his college boyfriend moves into town. Jack Reed is now out, proud, and a cop with a keen eye for those in trouble. Both can’t forget the love they shared for one another in college. As Cole’s abuse gets worse, Alex begins to see that he deserves better. But Cole Harrison is not one to let things go easily, as a grim reminder of his murderous past sends him spiraling into a rage that leaves Alex in the crossfire.

This book is such an emotional roller coaster of a read. TRIGGER WARNINGS: Domestic Violence, murder, forced sex, and attempted murder.

Alex is an intern. He is a doctor with crazy hours and he loves his job. The part of his life he does not love is his life outside of the hospital. His personal life is hell on earth. For five years now he and a man named Cole have been together. Like any relationship that ends in abuse, things started out amazing between them. Cole made Alex feel special, or at least he did until he didn’t.

A couple of years into their relationship things turned to the dark side and now Alex does not know how to get out of it. Alex is terrified that Cole is going to kill him. Cole has a hairline trigger when it comes to his anger and each time seems to be worst than the last.

Now to complicate things further for Alex, Jack is back. Jack is the one that stole and broke Alex’s heart when they were in college. Jack was terrified of coming out at the time so he pushed Alex away. He has always regretted doing so but now it is too late for Jack and Alex because he is with someone else.

Alex in some ways is excited to see Jack again but in other ways, he is going to complicate things more for Alex at home if Cole was to find out Jack is back in town.

Jack knows that something is off about Alex and he knows that something is even more complicated and just not right between Cole and Alex. He just has no proof.

What is going to happen to Alex when his world comes crashing down around him? Will he end up where he thought that he would end up after all? Will Cole finally make good on the threats to kill Alex? Will Jack figure out what is going on with Alex before it is too late?

This was such a good read but at the same time it is a very hard read. It is very descriptive about the abuse that Alex endures. So this book is definitely not for ones with triggers and not for someone with light of heart in such matters. Amelia Lawrence did an incredible job on this book. I look forward to reading more books by Amelia in the future.

Author

Hello, I am an avid reader of male/male books. I do not have a favorite genre when it comes to male/male books because I love all of them from romance, dark reads, paranormal, shifter, threesome, whatever I see that catches my eye at the time.

I read books about rock stars, CEOs, military, cops, and just the original plain old good boy types of books.

Basically when it comes to a book, I read whatever I am in the mood for at the time. So my tastes varies from day to day and sometimes even hour to hour.

Please comment! We'd love to hear from you.
