Helloooo, Internet Land. Bitty here!

Y’all… I might not be ready for this. I may be a former junior figure skating champion, vlogger extraordinaire, and very talented amateur pâtissier, but being a freshman on the Samwell University hockey team is a whole new challenge. It’s nothing like co-ed club hockey back in Georgia! First of all? There’s checking. And then, there is Jack—our very attractive but moody captain.

A collection of the first half of the megapopular webcomic series of the same name, Check, Please!: #Hockey is the first book of a hilarious and stirring two-volume coming-of-age story about hockey, bros, and trying to find yourself during the best four years of your life.

“Adorable” is the word for this webcomic that just ate up half my day. “Cute” and “Sweet” might work too. Normally, sweet isn’t really my style, and, to be honest, Bitty is a bit too sweet for me at times, but the secondary characters save the day here. It becomes an interesting balance of farcical and touching and sweet, and I really, really enjoyed it. This story has a nice slow build, and all the relationships between the teammates get the spotlight in turn. The art work is lovely, and I wish I were more of an expert on that to be able to go into details. There’s a definite development in Ukazu’s style over the years she’s been posting this. Go see for yourself! The print book that comes out this fall covers year one and two of Bitty’s stint on the hockey team of Samwell University, but on the comic’s website you can already read up to the end of year three*. Once you’ve done that, I’m sure you’ll be as excited as me that year four will start posting June 11th, because, boy, that’s a cliffhanger at the end of year three!

I gotta say that I am personally hoping for a bit more conflict in year four, but if there’s not, it’ll still be great. Or maybe more cute than great, but the world needs that too.

If you get really excited, there’s another few days left on the kickstarter for volume 3, which is an opportunity to pick up some swag and 18+ extras.
