Seth Tanner and his brother Jesse’s fun evening debunking local urban legends ends with Jesse’s gruesome murder. Seth vows revenge on Jesse’s killer – too bad the murderer has been dead for a hundred years. Seth uncovers a cycle of ritual killings that feed the power of a dark warlock’s immortal witch-disciples, and he’s hell bent on stopping Jackson Malone from becoming the next victim. He’s used to risking his neck. He never intended to risk his heart.
Finding Jackson wasn’t as difficult as keeping him safe from others and himself from doing something stupid. Jackson has a healthy distrust towards Seth when he finds out what’s going on, well what’s going on according to Seth anyway. How can Jackson be sure he’s telling the truth?
Witchbane has mystery and suspense a plenty – there’s a similarity to the tv series Supernatural in that someone experienced a loved family member murdered by something supernatural and goes hunting for it- which is why I was interested. Writing is good but the plot line is where it fell a bit short for me. I could see it coming a mile away, but up until that and after, it was great. Characters are well developed and the story’s logical. I enjoyed reading about Seth and Jesse’s time until it turned into horror that evening. To be honest Jackson did get me very annoyed a few times which is good since that meant I got very into the story. I also found Witchbane had a good mix of romance and suspense, neither detracted from the other, which meant I was never bored.
Witchbane doesn’t end in a clifhanger, but is more of a happy for now where Seth still has yet to revenge his brother.
I really enjoyed reading this thrilling book and I wouldn’t mind reading more about these characters in the future.
