When you work with someone for years, you think you know them pretty well.
Casey Wicker and Martin Bishop are a British Secret Service team with a reputation for ignoring rules but delivering results. They’ve also built a tight friendship, with more than a spark of unspoken attraction.
While on assignment to Scotland Yard, Martin rescues Casey and exposes him to a life-changing secret. Martin is not what he seems, and now that Casey is aware of that, the knowledge most likely comes with a death sentence.
When a way to avoid the tragic ending is suggested, it may very well take more cooperation than anyone is willing to expend.
Our two heroes are in the doghouse. The higher ups assigned them a task they are not thrilled with, but at least they are still working together. The POV switches are a little confusing bit the story moves briskly painting picture of men’s lives and their deep bond. They are loyal to each other. That’s why Casey is understandably surprised and hurt when it turns out his partner kept secrets from him. Now they are both in danger.
Honestly the whole paranormal aspect sounded far fetched to me (but I can’t logically explain why werewolves would be more believable) but the story mainly focuses on men’s relationship and its slow shifting from friendship to more. The missing jewelry plot is frankly thin but the storytelling makes up for it. The plot is disorganized in places and it could use tightening. It knocked down points from final rating. Despite this the story was interesting.
Think about it like a movie with plotholes: if you’re capable of enjoying it because of everything else, you’ll probably enjoy this book too. I did!
