I spent years waiting for someone who never put me first.
He took my love, took me for granted.
Took my heart.
Now I’m on my own.
Living life my way.
The crowd only sees my smile.
Never my loneliness and pain.
I need someone to need me.
When I meet another lost soul my friends try to warn me.
He’s a liar.
He’s all that and more.
He’s everything I’ve ever wanted.
I’m king of my world.
Then it all comes crashing down.
My secrets are exposed.
I’m cut off from my family.
Unrecognizable from the man I used to be.
Barely surviving, living day-to-day and out of control.
Nothing to hold on to.
I let go and fall so far there’s no way up.
Until a cowboy reaches into my darkness and brings me back to the light.
With him I can breathe.
I can be who I am.
Who he needs.
He gives me hope
To find myself.
To find love.
This was a book that I could not wait to read. Cort so deserved his own book and I am glad that he got one. This was such an incredible read. I just love this Man Up series so much. Felice Stevens knows exactly fly what she is doing when she writes a book. I have yet to find a book of hers that I do not love.
Cort is from Texas but he moved to New York when his family disowned him for being gay. But even though he lost his family, he has a new family of his own making. That family is soon to include a homeless man named Harlan.
Harlan has some major issues. He drinks too much. He’s addicted to drugs. He lost his own family. And he’s now homeless. But things start to look up for him somewhat when he meets a man named Cort.
Though Cort wants to help Harlan, Harlan is not the best at accepting help. He believes that what he is dealing with is well deserved. A man like Cort deserves to have friends in his life that are better than Harlan is.
Cort finally convinces Harlan to accept his help and gets Harlan to stay with him. Cort feels this immediate attraction to Harlan whether it is reciprocated or not. The thing is Harlan feels the attraction too but denies himself any kind of happiness.
In order for Cort and Harlan to find any kind of medium between them, they are both going to have to face some ugly truths about their pasts and deal with each of their secrets. Both men are going to have to learn how to be open and honest with each other. But will that be enough in the end? Or will someone from one of their pasts come back to tear the them apart?
Like I said. This was an incredible read. I really enjoyed this. Each book just keeps getting better and better with each new one in the series. I cannot wait to get my hands on James’ book. That is one book I have been looking forward to since I started reading this series. As always? I look forward to more of Felice’s books in the future.
