Derek Vaughn is a little too serious. He’s a type A control personality with a penchant for order and a love of water polo. But he’s determined to enjoy his last year of college. The real world with a serious job and big expectations can wait for a few months. He’s going soak up every minute on campus with his friends and teammates before he moves on. The only possible kink in his plan is the new guy on the team… also known as his nemesis.

Gabe Chadwick has big Olympic dreams. His transfer between Southern California universities has nothing to do with scholastics. The degree is his backup plan. He’s not there to party or make friends. And he certainly isn’t going to announce his sexuality. But he can’t deny there’s something special about the uptight team captain. However, when an unwitting friendship and mutual attraction collide, both will have to decide if this is the real thing or if they’re about to lose it all in the deep.

Wow, this was such a great read. I love a book about a man in denial and the other in the closet coming together to muddle their way through whatever happens to them. That’s is exactly what this book is about. It is an incredible read with some anguish and denial but in the end, it was all worth it.

Derek is about to graduate college with a degree he really does not want and about to be done with a sport he has loved for so long. He is the captain of his water polo team and though he is not making any type of career out of it, he takes the game seriously. So when a guy named Gabe on the opposing team messes with his head during the game and gets him kicked out, Derek cannot understand why he let the guy get to him in the first place.

To add insult to injury, when getting his butt chewing from the coach after the game, he finds out that the same man who was able to get in his head and under his skin is about to be one of his new teammates. Derek does not know how to handle this news. So he does the next best thing other than think it to death and gets drunk at a party that night. A party which Gabe is at.

When Derek decides it is time to put an end to the night and walk himself home, he is surprised when Gabe offers him a ride. In his drunken state, Derek lets his guard down and allows the hidden feelings he has had over the years appear. He kisses Gabe. He thinks that Gabe is going to punch him or something but instead he kisses him back and one thing leads to another and both end it with a very happy ending. Or at least for a moment anyway until reality kicks in and Derek freaks out.

Gabe knows he is gay. It is just he has not let many people in on that fact because he does not want it to hurt his chances of going to the Olympics. So when Derek kisses him and then freaks out, Gabe is in a state of shock. He has had a crush on Derek for a while now and never dreamed he could be bi or gay, it also hurt him that Derek wanted to act as if nothing happened.

With this between them, how will they ever possibly be able to be teammates? Can these two men figure out a way to work out their differences? Can they look into themselves and figure out what is the best course of action for each of them?

This was a very good read. I enjoyed it so much!!! I look forward to the next book in this series when it comes out. Lane Hayes did a great job on this book!

Hello, I am an avid reader of male/male books. I do not have a favorite genre when it comes to male/male books because I love all of them from romance, dark reads, paranormal, shifter, threesome, whatever I see that catches my eye at the time. I read books about rock stars, CEOs, military, cops, and just the original plain old good boy types of books. Basically when it comes to a book, I read whatever I am in the mood for at the time. So my tastes varies from day to day and sometimes even hour to hour.
