The camping trip from hell may be the first stop on the road to happily-ever-after.

Navy SEAL Renzo Bianchi has a soft spot for Canaan Finley, and not only because the man makes a mean smoothie. He’s the first guy to get Renzo’s motor revving in a long time. But when he agrees to Canaan’s insane charade—one all-access fake boyfriend, coming right up—he never expects more than a fling.

Creating a hot Italian SEAL boyfriend to save face seemed like a good idea…until his friends called Canaan’s bluff. Now he’s setting off into the woods with the very man who inspired his deception, and Canaan is not the outdoorsy type. The sparks are already flying when a flash flood separates them from their group, leaving Renzo and Canaan very much trapped…very much alone in the wilderness.

Working together to come up with a plan for survival is sexier than either of them expects. But back in the real world, being a couple is bringing its own set of hazards…

This book was such an awesome read. It is a long book but there are no lulls or dragging things out. It is one of those books that you keep asking yourself will they or won’t they make it? The two main characters both have an interesting past that puts a shield around their hearts but if they will let their shield down some they may just find a future that will lay the past to rest for good, or will it?

Canaan works at a smoothie place that caters mainly to the Navy base employees, whether they are civilian or active duty. He also goes to college to become a nurse. So he has a fairly busy life and when you throw in the fact he also lives next to his grandfather so he can care for him as well, well it makes for a lot of full days and nights. Canaan has a weakness though. He loves when the SEALs come in weekly for a smoothie and one SEAL in particular keeps catching his eye…Renzo aka Rooster.

Canaan knows he does not stand a chance with Renzo but boy does he enjoy being able to look at him when he comes in. After overhearing a conversation between Renzo and his other SEAL buddies, Canaan finds out that he may just have a shot with Renzo after all when he finds out that Renzo is bi.

Renzo is not very comfortable in his own skin when it comes to dating and sex. He has not had many past experiences but the ones he did have left him with a complex. So he is not one to just jump into dating or anything for that matter. So when Canaan invites to “get into some trouble together” on one of his visits to get a smoothie, Renzo neither says yes or no. So when Renzo does show up to take Canaan up on his offer, Canaan is pleasantly surprised. But things do not turn out the way that Canaan expects but he is not giving up.

Canaan even goes so far as to invite Renzo to join him on a camping trip coming up with Canaan’s old band mates. The catch is Canaan wants Renzo to act as if he is his boyfriend. Renzo is not convinced and decides to take some time to consider whether to go or not.

Can a camping trip with an ex-boyfriend and former band mates turn a fake relationship into a not so fake relationship after all? If so how will the past shape this relationship? Can two very different men figure out a way to make things work out between them or will the SEALs come between them? So many questions and the answers and so many more will all be answered while reading this book.

This was a fantastic read with drama, heartache, past pains, family drama and so much more. It is one of those books that keeps you wanting more and more as read it. It is definitely a book where you are cheering for the two main characters to get it together before it is too late. I look forward to more by Annabeth in the future.

Galley copy of Rough Terrain provided by Carina Press in exchange of an honest review.

Hello, I am an avid reader of male/male books. I do not have a favorite genre when it comes to male/male books because I love all of them from romance, dark reads, paranormal, shifter, threesome, whatever I see that catches my eye at the time.

I read books about rock stars, CEOs, military, cops, and just the original plain old good boy types of books.

Basically when it comes to a book, I read whatever I am in the mood for at the time. So my tastes varies from day to day and sometimes even hour to hour.
