Opposites don’t just attract… they sizzle.

A lusty special forces soldier who lives by his own set of rules, Dalton Fairfax decided long ago to stop wishing for his father’s love, and he found his calling. Now that he’s back home and between assignments, he finds himself at loose ends. When the opportunity arises to play bodyguard and help out his country, Dalton jumps at the chance. Not only does it keep him busy, but it just so happens that his charge is the man he saw on leave last month and hasn’t been able to get out of his head.

Heir to a dukedom and a conservative politician, Blaise Thompson strives to prove himself worthy of carrying on the family legacy as the next IN Councilman. However, his closest competitor keeps getting in the way and taking credit for Blaise’s ideas. Maintaining his stellar reputation isn’t easy to do while keeping his outrageous younger brother in line and foiling his rival’s personal attacks. He has no time for a guard and even less time for romance.

When a priceless antique goes missing, Blaise and Dalton discover that Regelance has larger problems than just IN plots. Now the only way to stop a scandal that threatens both of them is to compromise, and they are forced to confront the risk of losing everything… even each other.

Absolutely loved this story!

It was easy to read with likeable characters and just enough angst to make the end sweeter. It’s romance at its core with quintessential bad boy and goody two shoes he falls in love with. While the plot from previous three books continues it’s mainly in the background and the story focuses almost completely on romance. It can be read as standalone, and I don’t know, but it also felt more cohesive than previous three. (Could be just that I was thrilled to read a sequel after so long time!)

Dalton is back at home after stint in the army to straighten him out. While he waits for new assignment he manages to wrangle temporary duty as a bodyguard to the guy he is infatuated with. Blaise is struggling to maintain the image his family wants while ignoring his own dreams.
It’s a fun story as they gradually get to know each other better, realize what’s important and make steps to go after they want. Even the final misunderstandings (which can only happen in regency world!) managed to be convincing. It has heart-melting, lovely end.

It’s cute as as floppy-eared puppy!

Galley copy of Diplomatic Relations provided by Dreamspinner Press in exchange of an honest review.

  • I’ve read the other 3 books and listened to the 2 when they were re-published and anxiously waiting for the 3rd audio. I loved the premise of all 3 but I do believe that they are unnecessarily longer than they should making some scenes and happenings on repeat and redundant so I’m hoping based on your review that the 4th won’t be like that and frankly I can’t wait for Trouble’s book ^^.
