Blurb:

Small dogs can make big changes… if you open your heart.

Carter Embree always hoped someone might rescue him from his productive, tragically boring, and (slightly) ethically compromised life. But when an urchin at a grocery store shoves a bundle of fluff into his hands, Carter goes from rescuee to rescuer—and he needs a little help.

Sandy Corrigan, the vet tech who eases Carter into the world of dog ownership, first assumes Carter is a crazy-pants client who just needs to relax. But as Sandy gets a glimpse of the funny, kind, sexy man under Carter’s mild-mannered exterior, he sees that with a little care and feeding, Carter might be “Super Pet Owner”—and decent boyfriend material to boot.

But Carter needs to see himself as a hero first. As he says goodbye to his pristine house and hello to carpet treatments and dog walkers, he finds there really is more to himself than a researching drudge without a backbone. A Carter Embree can rate a Sandy Corrigan. He can be supportive. He can be a man who stands up for his principles!

He can be the owner of a small dog.

Amy Lane just has this way of writing that gets me every damn time. I feel like she has some kind of direct line into my romantic squeee nerve that I never knew existed.

Carter is an attorney who loves his job but hates his boss. He works hard. Even lost a guy because of it. So when he’s literally left holding a puppy with no one in sight, he does what every non-animal owning person would do…drives directly to PetSmart. There he meets Sandy, the very talkative, filterless vet tech who latches on to Carter and won’t let go.

I so loved Sandy. He was so warm and funny and full of joy. Just oozing the stuff. I’m not sure I’ve ever read a more tenacious character and it was spectacular to see how he just wanted to wrap Carter up and keep him in his pocket forever.

Carter was more reserved, but not boring. No. He was thoughtful. He was precise. He was an attorney, but he had a conscience and he wanted to be a good person. My heart flip-flops just thinking about him.

And can I just say, I LOVED the cameos of Tommy and Jonah working there! It was so fun to read them in the Johnnies series and get a quick glimpse of them here.

Amy Lane is brilliant at writing sugary romance featuring MC’s with hearts of gold and cute puppies and this is another example of what she does best. Very very cute story.

Reading has become such a huge part of my life as an adult. I love the escape, but I also try to take something from each story for myself. I am a lover of words. I love dialogue. I love a slow burn and a happy ever after.
