Six years ago, an ultimatum forced Dan Greyson to make a choice that cost him everything he loved most. One of those things? His boyfriend, hockey player Ashton Yager. Now that they’ve crossed paths again, Dan isn’t about to let the opportunity slip away. Ash’s reappearance in his life is just the catalyst Dan needs to escape the rut he’s fallen into…and win back Ash’s trust and love.
Ashton Yager, once burned and now a little bit shy, didn’t mean to publicly come out as bisexual. But now that he has, he’s got to deal with the consequences, including the fact that it might’ve cost him his NHL contract. With his job on the line, he needs to keep his head down, work hard, and play the best hockey of his life. Rekindling things with Dan? That’s not exactly keeping a low profile. It’s also never going to happen, not after Dan walked away once without an explanation.
When a hurricane forces Ash to seek shelter out-of-state, he and Dan find themselves in the same B&B, where old feelings resurface. But with everything Ash has on the line, does he dare play with fire again?
This was a good book. The sad thing is these two men were so perfect for one another the first time they met but a meddling force tore them away from one another. Both men were left heartbroken. One man knowing why he had to end things and the other left constantly questioning why it had to end the way it did with no explanation. Sadly this book was really close to reality and what some people go through because of a family member ruining what would have been the best relationship. But in this case, the two men are given a second chance at making things right when in reality that is rare thing to happen. This was an incredible read about love winning out in the end against the forces that kept them apart for so long.
Dan and Ash met six years ago. This was the first relationship with a man either of these men had but it turned out to be the relationship that would end up haunting each man for years to come. When these two first met and fell in love both men planned a future that included one another in it. Everything was set up and both men were ready to begin their lives together until Dan’s mom stepped in and made threats Dan knew she would follow through with if he did not give in and do what she wanted him to do. So he made the ultimate sacrifice and lost not only the man he was completely in love with, but he also lost his brother as well.
Fast forward six years later and Dan now realizes he made sacrifices for no reason. He ruined the life he had planned, the life he desperately wanted all for nothing. Now running into Ash again to have Ash not want to hear why he had to leave him makes things even worse for Dan.
Dan has not been in another relationship with any man since then. He threw himself in the life his mother wanted for him and he has had many regrets and definitely very little happiness. So when he recently was able to reconnect with his brother again and found out the things he gave up were for nothing, Dan knew it was a sacrifice on his part for nothing.
Ash has had relationships since but not with another man and the relationships ended badly. When Ash sees Dan again those old hurts and questions resurface again but Ash does not want to know why Dan did the things he did. He just wants to move ahead with his life again. He never intended to continually run into Dan again now that they have seen one another again but that is what happens. And it is getting harder and harder to not want to know the truth. But can Ash handle the truth and can he ever forgive Dan when he does find out the truth?
This was such an incredible read. The characters have such a powerful presence about them that they draw you in and keep you wanting to learn more about them. You find yourself cheering for these two men to find their way back to one another. I cannot wait for another book in this series to come out. If it is half as good as this book was then it will be an incredible read.
