When a photo of Hollywood leading man, Joshua Hudson, hits the tabloids with his tongue down another man’s throat Josh has no other option but to lay low for a while. The problem being of course that going home for the first time in eight years means facing all the skeletons in his closet. Particularly the one he’s tried hardest to bury; Gabriel Alvarez.

Gabriel was Josh’s first love. His first everything. He hadn’t ever wanted to be without him but fear is a powerful emotion and when you’re young with your dreams on the line, it can make you do crazy, terrible things. Like running away.

Josh had never wanted to face Gabriel again, but some things in life are inevitable.

This short novel is book one in the Shooting Star series, featuring famous men finding love and themselves along the way. Each can be read as a stand alone novel and feature HEA with no cheating. Warnings for drug and alcohol abuse, anxiety and depression.

This review is going to be a problem. At least, like the wonderful novella, it will be fairly short.

The problem comes with realization that Inevitable is short on plot and long on character study. The Blurb, above, tells you enough to know what has happened, and what’s likely to happen – after all, an HEA is promised. No! The work is a beautifully drawn picture of the two main figures, how they got to their present day, and the difficulties in reconciling past feelings they have had for each other.

The reader is introduced to them in as late adolescents, as they explore first physical intimacy. Their innocence and optimism are beautiful. Then, suddenly, we are years later: innocence is gone, replaced by cynicism and angst. Josh has sought success, but seems to have lost himself along the way. He returns deeply damaged. Gabriel, once “a ray of sunshine,” now seems to “have a dark cloud around him.” We are invited by Ms. Sway to view the characters’ challenges as they rediscover their individual essences and each other – emotionally and (hotly) physically.

Ms. Sway provides us with a truly satisfactory read, highly recommended to those who believe in true love and want to experience it on the page.

I'm a retired professional. My husband and I, each with an ex-wife, between us have six married children and 10 grandchildren. We both read voraciously, with a strong leaning to gay romance and HEA. Stories with a little (okay, even loads of) sex, and a lot of tears, always pleases.
