He’s Mr. Right Now, but for how long?

When Russ suffers a Thanksgiving disaster, his gorgeous neighbor Esteban is there to save the day. And after an innocent mix-up leads to the former Hollywood hottie playing the role of Russ’s date, Russ thinks scoring Esteban as his fake boyfriend is a huge win. The newly discharged marine is healing inside and out and could use some holiday cheer.

For his part, Esteban is intrigued by his big, bad neighbor. He likes how his matchmaking cat brings out an unexpected caring side of Russ. Desire flares as the reasons to continue their ruse pile up for both men.

And pretending feels so good. From chocolaty kisses to late night cuddles, their burgeoning friendship is getting cozier and cozier. But as the end date for their little deception looms, all the real feelings they’ve tried to ignore come tumbling in. Each must decide whether they have what it takes to ring in the New Year as a couple.

Mr. Right Now is a stand-alone holiday novella with sweet, low-angst feels, spicy love scenes, and foodie inspired, quirky Oregon romance with a military flavor. Happy ending guaranteed with no cliffhangers!

Mr. Right Now by Annabeth Albert is precisely why I love holiday romances. I love that warm, happy feeling they gave. They make me feel as if I’m sitting in front of the fireplace with my hot cup of cocoa on a winter day. I found this novella utterly endearing.

While I was excited when this story was first announced when I read it was a fake boyfriend storyline-

I’ll admit I was disappointed- hate this trope. I still wanted to read it though because Annabeth has written one of my favorite holiday romances. In the end, she didn’t disappoint, and she also taught me something about myself. Anyhoo, highlights.

What I loved:

-The characters. Both Russ and Esteban were lovely, as well as the secondary cast.

-Relationship development. I learned that I don’t hate “fake boyfriend” when it happens on accident. How it occurred was actually sweet, and how their feelings grew felt organic. I loved all of their interactions.

-Sweet and romantic.

-The matchmaking cat, he knew all along these two belonged together. 😉

-There was also no unnecessary drama. It could’ve easily been added, but I’m happy the author steered clear, and the one problem was solved quickly.

All in all, Mr. Right Now is a solid holiday read. If you enjoy holiday movies, like the ones on Netflix and Hallmark, then you’ll surely enjoy this book. I could see this adapted into a film. It gave me the warm fuzzies.

Great start to my Christmas reading!
