One Aussie. One Texan. One baby. One hell of a fight.

When his sister and her husband are killed in an accident, Aussie cattle station owner Lachlan McCoughney rushes to Texas to rescue their infant daughter, Chloe. He expects to find his niece living in squalor with the Sheffields, a rodeo family.

Instead, Lachlan finds Holden Sheffield, a salt-of-the-earth cowboy running a huge business operation. They want to explore their mutual attraction despite the many problems thrown their way, and together, they must find a way to give Chloe a new family and find a love that spans thousands of acres and two continents.

Since I’ve started reading romances, I’ve always had a soft spot for books with kids and babies. When the baby is somewhat a “gift” for the new parents, it’s even better.

So it was with no surprise that I couldn’t not read this story. One orphan baby, two uncle cowboys – a Texan, and an Aussie — Sign me up!

Lachlan McCoughney has been looking for his runaway baby sister for years, and when he discovers where she has been, it’s with the sad news of her death. However, she left a three months old baby girl. Being the head of is family, Lachlan will do anything in order to rescue his niece from a bunch of crazy rodeo cowboys and bring her to Australia and to his family’s home.

Holden Sheffield is not done grieving. In one strike, he lost his sister-in-law and his twin brother in a plane accident. The only thing keeping him and his family spirits up is baby Chloe, his niece and now adopted daughter. Holden will do anything to protect Chloe and raise her right. Between taking care of her and his family’s land, Lachlan’s love life is close to zero. He wasn’t expecting an arrogant Aussie to appear making demands and threatening to take Chloe away.

It was clear to me that family was a very important matter in this book. Both main characters are willing to do anything for their families. The fact that they both lost a sibling is a point in the middle they can meet, and the baby it’s the super glue to unit these two families.

However, not everything is hearts and flowers ‘round here. When baby Chloe is kidnapped, the McCoughneys and Sheffields will have to join forces in order to rescue her safely.

Trial by Fire was my first story by B.A. Tortuga, and I can wholeheartedly say I want more! It was well written and edited, even though is still an ARC, and/or probably not the final version.
