Wyatt Parker has a good life—he owns his own construction company, his own house, and he eats home-cooked meals every day. But cooking for one while watching the foodie network is more than lonely. When he learns about an upcoming reality show centered on becoming the personal chef for his favorite rock star, Wyatt leaps at the chance to audition.

Tully Randolph is the drummer for the band Unusual Potatoes. With a chef for a mom, love of good food runs in the family. When he’s asked to host a cooking competition, he’s all in—especially after he meets Wyatt, who is just the kind of big, hairy guy who gets Tully’s juices flowing. With a heart as big as he is, Wyatt wows Tully with his skills in the kitchen… and in the bedroom.

But if their relationship is found out, Wyatt could be drummed out of the competition—and out of Tully’s life. All the ingredients for a happy future are in front of them, and they just need to figure out how to bring everything together.

This was a cute story. I love cooking competition shows and the story is set around one designed to get Tully, drummer of a popular band, his very own personal chef. Wyatt is a chef by hobby and a bear of a man, who Tully immediately feels attracted to. Wyatt is of course totally smitten with Tully, which is why he entered the competition in the first place.

I enjoyed how shy and timid Wyatt appeared in the beginning, especially how humble he was about his cooking. He was calm when faced with the different competition challenges and fielded off the professional chefs’ condescending looks and remarks with ease. Tully and Wyatt did not take long to follow their attraction to its inevitable conclusion, with an explosive sex scene that was pretty damn steamy. There was sweetness and baking and home cooking reminiscent of days passed, all culminating to a warm-hearted reading experience. The HEA was of course very sweet as well and served to convince all that anything is possible in this world.

I had to knock away a few stars though. First, the plot was not very realistic. I found it very hard to believe that professional chefs –let alone adults, in general- would be so casual about making silly fat jokes as if they were all in high school bullying the unpopular kid. It got too much. The host of the show and the top chef (training wise) were very OTT villain-like and their actions were pretty ridiculous in general. On the whole, the competition developments were exaggerated to say the least. If Wyatt was not such an endearing character, I think I would have found it extremely difficult to keep reading. But I kept rooting for him the whole time and I really liked that Tully was not the stereotypical rock star persona, even though he was constantly referred to by others and himself as “the rockstar” as if that was a detail that could have slipped my mind.

I personally enjoyed reading this sweet story, even though I had to pretty much give up hope of anything remotely resembling a realistic scenario. I appreciated the tenderness between Wyatt and Tully and I would definitely pick up something else by these authors in the future.
