Roman “Quick” Webb is one badass bounty hunter on the crime-filled streets of Atlanta. He’s fearless when it comes to carrying out his dangerous job alongside his longtime best friend and business partner, Duke. However, there is one thing that has begun to cause Quick concern and it’s the dreadful thought of living out the rest of his life alone. Seeing his best friend and his son fall in love and sharing the special connection that only true soulmates can, has made him all the more aware of what’s lacking in his life.
Love.
Dr. Cayson Chauncey has been wildly attracted to the big, tattooed hunter for almost a year, ever since he performed the surgery that saved Quick’s best friend’s life. Cayson must’ve mistaken Quick’s gratitude for something more, because the one time he tried to make his desires known, he was harshly rebuffed and left on the man’s doorstep feeling stupid for hitting on an obviously very straight man.
Cayson never dated a man who was willing to come out of hiding and be with him. Now at almost forty, Cayson is intent on no longer being anyone’s dirty secret. Having experienced countless disappointments, and having taken a stand not to fall for any more tricks, Cayson is more than a little skeptical when Quick comes around asking for a second chance to prove himself. The gorgeous man had already made it clear that he was not interested in Cayson… or so he’d thought.
Dr. Chauncey stirred up Quick’s suppressed, most carnal desires from a place deep down inside of him. He’d reacted so badly the first time that now his sexy surgeon wanted nothing to do with him. It was going to take a fair amount of patience and a whole lot of wooing involved as Quick sets out to convince Cayson that he’s worth another chance and that he is the brave lover who Cayson has been looking for.
With a scorned ex and a very dangerous job thrown into the mix, Cayson’s happiness and all of Quick’s promises may not be as easy to keep as they’d hoped.
Dr. Cayson Chauncey is a man who has been denied in love for a very long time. Roman “Quick” Webb is the tough as guts bounty hunter whom Cayson is hopelessly attracted to. However, the one time Cayson hit on Quick he was rebuffed badly.
Quick has known he’s bisexual most of his life, but he married a woman, and has been in relationships with women because it’s been easier. So he’s unprepared for the desire and feelings Cayson brings out in him. Once he gets his head out of his ass he realizes Cayson is a wonderful man who would be a great catch and he goes about convincing the once-bitten-twice-shy doctor to give a possible relationship a chance.
Cayson is unused to the men he’s with being out, or willing to be seen with him, so when Quick pulls out all the stops, including proving he’s not only willing to be seen with the doctor, but immensely proud to be with him, Cayson’s heart quickly melts. Unfortunately Cayson’s ex doesn’t like, or want to believe, Cayson is moving on and proceeds to stir up a lot of trouble for the two.
While the story moves quickly in most parts, I felt like the romance itself took too long to get going. I felt like a caged lion pacing back and forth waiting for a meal while I read, hoping with each turn of the page that this would be when the two finally get together. I was SO HAPPY when they finally stopped circling each other and Cayson gave Quick the opportunity to woo him. While both men are great characters, I definitely have a soft spot for Cayson. I so badly wanted to see him happy.
Quick caressed down the side of his cheek. He was looking at him like Cayson hung the stars and the moon. Was he so desperate that he was imagining all this? But Quick said he wanted to take care of him. Him. He’d be crazy not to see if there was any way Quick could give him what his body deserved. What it craved. “I’m also not concerned with tricks or seduction. Just show me you, Rome. I’ll be able to see through an act. I’ve had enough men act a certain way to get a certain something. I’m done with actors. Promise you’ll be real.” No more guys acting concerned, acting in love, acting… straight. He needed… wanted a real man.
“I love you, Cayson. I do. And, I haven’t said that to many people. My sweet Cays. I love you from a place so deep, that I feel like I’ve just started to live life. That a missing part of me has come alive, and it feels so good when I’m with you. I know I have my son, and my friends. But you soothe something inside of me that no one ever has. That’s how I know.”
Though it didn’t hold the same punch for me as Part I, I enjoyed the story overall, and I’m looking forward to the other Bounty Hunters stories.
