Wade Kelly Guest Post

Gay Book Reviews is thrilled to welcome Wade Kelly to our blog today!

Bankers Hours

My Favorite Things!

Hello good people! This is Wade Kelly. I’ve dropped by Good Book Reviews to talk a little about my new novel, . It released last Friday! I’m so excited. I hope you’ve stopped at the previous guest posts in this blog tour, or you have missed out on all the fun stuff I already talked about.

In this stop, I’m going to talk about favorites.

1. I asked my fan group, , to come up with some “reader” questions for me to answer on my final stop in this Blog Tour, and one question seemed great to talk about here. Vicki asked, “What is your favorite trope?”

My favorite trope is “Opposite Attract!”

I’ve done this with Nick & RC in , Cole & Ellis in , Chris & Alonzo in , and now with Grant & Tristan in !

I also seriously love “virgins.” If you haven’t noticed, I write a lot of virgins. I think that first time experience is so sweet. AND yes…. GRANT IS A VIRGIN!

2. My favorite band is All Time Low. If you haven’t figured that out by now, then you must not have read many of my books. I have put a line in every book that has come out since I discovered the band in September 2012. Thank you Pandora. I am also very fond of Evanescence, Maroon 5, Alanis Morissette, Barenaked Ladies, Hawk Nelson, Jennifer Knapp, Nickelback, Panic! At The Disco, P!nk, Fall Out Boy, The Used, TONS of music from Glee, and newcomer Troye Sivan.

If you haven’t guessed it, All Time Low is referenced in Bankers’ Hours! Tristan took his daughter to a concert. Yes, that’s right, and I was at that concert 😉

3. My favorite TV shows!!!! Best show EVER was Buffy The Vampire Slayer. I think Joss Whedon is brilliant. Since that show is no longer online, I had to seek other shows to watch. I love, love, love Teen Wolf! Stiles is my favorite character. Glee is awesome. I own the series on DVD. I also liked Angel. My favorite way to watch it is in between the Buffy seasons where they fit, so when characters cross over the shows are in sequence. Dexter rocked! I’ve seen every show at least twice. I think my favorite seasons were 4 & 5. I try to watch Grey’s Anatomy, but I am behind. As far as older shows, I love Friends, Northern Exposure, Seinfeld, X Files, Queer As Folk (although not that old), and Kolchak: The Night Stalker.

How does this relate to Bankers’ Hours? Well, if you’ve been following the blog tour you can probably guess. Grant loves Glee. And the picture I reference on his phone, I have on mine! ☺ I love Darren Criss.

4. My favorite movies also appear in Bankers’ Hours. Of course I reference them! I really love Pitch Black! I think it was a fantastic movie. Gone In 60 Seconds was awesome, and it is also Tristan’s favorite movie. Other favorites, which I have seen multiple times, are Shelter, Shakespeare In Love, Some Kind Of Wonderful, Underworld, all X-Men, Star Trek, Jurassic Park, Jitters, Just a Question of Love, Harry Potter, How to Train Your Dragon, Despicable Me, French Kiss, Latter Days, all Jason Bourne movies, Hotel Transylvania 2, and there are probably many more but this is off the top of my head.

5. Favorite Job? Cinders asked if I am a full time writer or if I have an evil day job.

I am a fulltime writer who doesn’t make any money. Does that make sense? I’ve had about 7 jobs in my life. Restaurant work (Nick from had that job), Clothing Factory (RC worked there in ), Deli department (referenced in . Darian worked there.), Mobile phone company, two Mortgage Companies, and a BANK!!! Grant works the job I enjoyed the most from my “working” life. In 2000, I stopped working outside the home and had children. Ten years ago I started writing and was published in 2009. Writing is by far the best job, but I don’t make enough money to live on, so many people in my “real life” don’t see it as a real job. One day, I hope to say I could live on what I earn writing. Realistically, I doubt I’d make enough for my FAMILY to survive on, but I’d like to supplement some income so my husband could switch to a less stressful job.

6. Favorite food? Pizza from Tommy’s Pizza, duh! ☺

7. Favorite books? This is a hard one because there are many I have read, many I have listened to, that are really great. For this post, I will list a few that I have read more than once. I rarely read (something I am working on) but if I’ve read a book more than once then it must be awesome! American Love Songs by Ashlyn Kane is my favorite go-to read, Sinner’s Gin (whole series) by Rhys Ford, The Halfling’s Gem by R.A. Salvatore (several of that series more than once), The Dragonbone Chair (series) by Tad Williams, The Pawn Of Prophecy by David Eddings (1st 5 books more than once), Crossing Borders by Z.A. Maxfield, Without Reservations by J.L. Langley (Whole With or Without Series), Willow Bend by Ally Blue, Special Delivery by Heidi Cullinan, The Kiss by G.A. Hauser, Locker Room by Amy Lane, Romeo & Juliet by William Shakespeare, Eats, Shoots, and Leaves by Lynn Truss, Red Dwarf by Grant Naylor, Str8 Boys by Evangeline Anderson, Collision Course by K.A. Mitchell, Custom Ride by K. A. Mitchell, and Simon & the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli. There may be more I’ve read multiple times, but this is a long list already. Note: the books that have been out a long time, if I still remember them then that author did a great job!

8. Favorite time of year? Autumn

9. Favorite Drink? Water. lol… But I also love beer. I am fond of stouts and I have an Untappd App on my phone where I can rate beers I like. If you are on Untappd, find me! (WadeKelly)

10. Cinders, in my fan group , also asked “What type of body turns you on?” Well, I really like the athletic types, especially college-aged guys. I guess I write college students for a reason. Lean, slightly muscular, but not necessarily bodybuilders.

I think I will wrap this up. If any of you have a question for me, just ask! I love to hear from readers. Join me on Facebook Twitter, my blog, or email me

Before I go, here is a short excerpt. Is it my favorite scene? Maybe. I actually like many, many scenes. Hard to pick one. Warning: It’s a tad risqué.

Excerpt

Tristan leaned in and kissed me until I gasped and he pulled back. “What?” he asked.

I swallowed hard. “I just felt your penis poke my leg.” I closed my eyes and struggled to keep my breathing steady. “You know I want to touch you.”

Tristan cupped the side of my face and kissed me hard. After a few seconds, he pulled back and said, “Okay. But I’m not touching you… yet. I need time. This restraint is good for me, believe it or not. I’m used to fucking long and hard. When I finally make love to you, I want it to be slow. I don’t want to scare you.”

“Scare me? You said you were kidding about the whip.”

“I am. I mean, scare you because of how rough I like to get. You’re green. I’m not pounding your ass like a jackhammer until I know you’re ready.” He must have seen my eyes grow wide because he tried soothing me. “Shhh, Grant, I promise not to hurt you.” He caressed my face and I swear I knew he wasn’t lying, even if his statement intimidated me. He was right; I was green as ever a virgin could be.

Although… “You know I’m not a kid, right Tristan? I’ve watched porn. I know basically what to do and I understand the mechanics. I’m not that scared to try things.” I had to make sure he understood me because if he kept treating me like a fragile teenager, I’d be forced to buy rope, tie him to the bed, and create a little BDSM scene of my own. Although, I hoped it wouldn’t come to that because I wasn’t really a take-charge kind of guy, even if I was pushy and opinionated.

“Point taken. You may do whatever you wish,” he said, rolling onto his back and folding his arms behind his head.

I sat up and paused in my worry. Oh, wow. I get to do whatever I want, and I don’t know where to start. I took a hold of the blanket and sheet and slowly pulled them back together so I could take a gander at his naked body. Slowly, I revealed his cut chest, chiseled ads, and flat stomach just to his navel. So much hair, it enticed me to rub it, which I did. I ran my hand all over his stomach and up the center of his chest. My chest hair was patchy and sparse, so touching his coarse, dark hair—over his pecs, down his chest, and across his stomach—made me grateful I was still wearing my white undershirt. He’d see my patheticness later, after it was too late to bail.

Tristan closed his eyes and breathed deeper.

I licked my lips and readied myself for what came next—revealing his cock. I think I was apprehensive about it because I’d seen him in his underwear and the shaft he had under that little bit of cotton seemed huge. What if it really was huge? What if I choked on him during my first try at a blowjob and puked, or choked to death? I had a strong gag-reflex; anything was possible.
I gripped the blanket again and then pulled it back carefully. I knew it wasn’t going to leap out, but I didn’t want to be the one guy who injured him because I yanked the covers back too swiftly. I knew what it was like to zip my fly too fast; this needn’t be compared to that.

I gasped again. Of course I did. I could not imagine anyone seeing something that large and not being surprised by it. Straight and long, the thing reached his navel. He could beat baby seals to death with it. I gulped air, wishing I had a drink of water to wet my throat. I was even more nervous now, looking at it. I stretched my fingers wide and held my hand above it, measuring. My long, piano player fingers measured about ten inches from the tip of my pinkie to the end of my thumb. He had to be that long!

“What are you doing?”

I snapped face in his direction as I snatched my hand back. “Nothing.”

He chuckled.

Even though bankers’ hours leave long weekends for romance, cosmic intervention is Grant’s only option when money doesn’t buy happiness and he’s got virginity in spades.

Grant Adams is a twenty-six-year-old bank teller who’s unlucky at love, yet hopelessly hopeful. After years of horrific first dates, he’s convinced he’s saving himself for true love. Surely he has bad taste in men because it couldn’t possibly be his persnickety nature that’s sent them packing.

Tristan Carr has been in a holding pattern since his daughter was born fifteen years ago, which suits his workaholic lifestyle just fine. This ex-Navy turned auto mechanic never wanted anyone interfering with being a weekend dad. For Tristan to rearrange his perfectly orchestrated life, a guy will need to be special. Or in the case of the newest employee at his bank, the guy will need to be adorable, shy, and open to the prospect of forever when it shows up at his window.

Biography

wade kelly
Wade Kelly lives and writes in conservative, small-town America on the east coast where it’s not easy to live free and open in one’s beliefs. Wade writes passionately about controversial issues and strives to make a difference by making people think. Wade does not have a background in writing or philosophy, but still draws from personal experience to ponder contentious subjects on paper. There is a lot of pain in the world and people need hope. When not writing, she is thinking about writing, and more than likely scribbling ideas on sticky notes in the car while playing “taxi driver” for her children. She likes snakes, can’t spell, and has a tendency to make people cry.

I love music references in books ‘cos then I get to search and discover new music to love.
Also I always listen to music when I read so favorite scenes get linked with songs so whenever I hear that song again I remember the scene, so nostalgic ^^.

As always my comments are late… *blames night school for it*

I absolutely loved this post! I love reading about the authors as much as I do reading character interviews. The excerpt? I just laughed and laughed until my son asked me what was so funny! ‘Oh, nothing!’ ‘Sure Mom!’

Thank you!

Another informative and interesting post, I am learning so much about you, which is all good 🙂 I also love reading opposites attract and also with a bit of age difference. I have a favourite story where the older man is the more submissive in the relationship than his younger partner and also a virgin. By the way I do love the pendant you are wearing in your picture, is dichroic glass or ammolite?

Thanks for sharing, Wade! When the mood strikes I too have a thing for virgins, especially those a little bit older than your average virgin today. Guess it because it one of those things you can never re-live once the deed is done.
