When your best friend is gay and you are straight life can present some interesting challenges…especially if chance and circumstances conspire and you find yourself married…To each other! Legally Wed from romance author Cecil Wilde is a perfect mix of friendship, love, and humor; with a few twists and turns to keep you turning the pages of this contemporary GLBT romance.
Blake’s a thirty-something lawyer climbing the career ladder to his dream job of DA. He’s sacrificed any kind of life away from work to get to where he’s going, and he’s determined to get there.
Xander’s a contract lawyer stuck in a dead-end job and a string of unfulfilling relationships with men he can’t love. He’s been in love with his best friend almost since they first met in law school, but he’d never say anything, because he knows Blake can’t love him back.
During a desperately needed vacation for both of them, they wake up after a night on the town in Las Vegas–married. To each other. As if that wasn’t bad enough, they soon realize that the story coming out would tank Blake’s career and ruin Xander’s life, so they can’t afford to get a divorce.
Their only choice is to fake it. For Blake, that means pretending he’s not as straight as he’s always said he is, and for Xander, it means the torture of getting what he’s always wanted in the worst possible way. Add to that the trials of married life, and what starts out as an adventure quickly turns sour as life happens, confessions are made, and tragedy strikes.
With his tentatively happy marriage hanging in the balance, Blake must engage in some serious soul-searching to find out that what he’s always wanted had been right in front of him all along. But will it be too late to convince Xander of his intentions, after years of not being able to see him for what he was?
This was a really fun book that I bought on a whim because of the cover models! Yes I can admit … I am a cover ho at times!! So our story begins in Las Vegas, and as you know what happens in Vegas…doesn’t always stay in Vegas, especially when you marry your best-friend during a drunken night of fun! This is what happens between Blake and Xander, these two thirty something guys are both lawyers and have known each other for many, many years. What was suppose to be a fun trip to Vegas to relax ends up being the start of a different type of relationship for these two friends. Oh, did I forget to mention that Blake is straight?!? Yep, that’s right he has always been straight; however, that hasn’t stopped Xander from being in love with him for years. It also hasn’t stopped Xander from never finding love because he has always graded his lovers against an unmeetable standard, known as “I love my straight best-friend and you will never be him, thus you’re not good enough”!!
So now these two best-friends are married and I have to say they take it pretty well all things considered. They immediately consider divorce but are both swayed to think that maybe being married to each other isn’t the worst thing that could have happened to them and getting divorced may cause more problems in the long-term. This should set off bells and whistles when a straight guy agrees to staying married to another man and the fact that it doesn’t led me to believe that Blake was hiding something of himself.
When Blake gets a call that there has been a family emergency, Xander and him fly to Blake’s hometown. It is during this trip together that Blake starts to take count of his feelings for Xander and starts to contemplate stuff from his past. After some deep soul searching Blake comes to realize that he may not be so straight after all and when he tells Xander this, the reaction is not one I expected. You would think Xander would be jumping for joy! But it turns out Xander is afraid that this new development may cause him to lose Blake.
These two have a lot of obstacles to overcome if they are going to remain legally wed and first they have to learn to be honest with each other and themselves. Sometimes facing yourself is harder than facing someone else – especially when it comes to matters of the heart. Will these toe get their happily ever after? Go get this book and find out..I recommend this book and the cover is a nice piece of eye candy!!
